Shot entirely on location on the Greek island of Crete, “Paperboat” follows Melanie, a young Greek journalist from New York as she goes back home to a small village to attend her grandmother’s funeral. She reconnects with her childhood friend, Jason, with whom she has maintained a lively correspondence fashioned as ‘paperboat’ letters. Overcome by the sweet taste of the past she faces the perennial dilemma of all émigrés: should she stay, or go back to the adopted country.

The film examines our sense of belonging, need for love and feeling of security which draw us back home, and above all the nostalgia for a sweet memory.

Director Daphne Lambrinou
